Fumei Posted December 19, 2014 Report Posted December 19, 2014 Dear All, Please, can anyone identify this Tsuba (school, maker)? Material: Shakudo, Gold. Size: 72mm x 70mm x 10.2mm Weight: 181 gr. Thank you in advance, Vladimir. Quote
laowho Posted December 21, 2014 Report Posted December 21, 2014 Must be ok now. No such trouble. Don't think I've seen such groundwork before--leather? Quote
Brian Posted December 21, 2014 Report Posted December 21, 2014 Nice tsuba. Is the entire groundwork shakudo or just the rim? Usually these would be in iron with a shakudo mimi. Nicely done. No idea of school, but late Edo I suspect. Brian Quote
Fumei Posted December 21, 2014 Author Report Posted December 21, 2014 Thank you, Brian. The whole tsuba is made of a "Shakudō" material, including rim. Dragon is performed very minutely and impressively. You're right, the seller specified the period of production as a late Edo 1800-1849. But the manufacturer (school) of this tsuba is unknown for him, unfortunately. Quote
brannow Posted December 22, 2014 Report Posted December 22, 2014 Hi Vladimir, Nice tsuba! Definitely late work. Might be Waki Goto work. Quote
Jean Posted December 22, 2014 Report Posted December 22, 2014 That's a very good one Vladimir, perhaps Pete, Curran or Ford can tell the school. Quote
Fumei Posted December 23, 2014 Author Report Posted December 23, 2014 Bill and Jean, I'm glad that this tsuba you liked too. Many thanks for your help. Quote
drbvac Posted December 24, 2014 Report Posted December 24, 2014 It is beautiful and must be from an excellent smith - the "experts" should know and if not perhaps you have found a new master - the dragon is exquisite Quote
