Jock Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 Hi, my new blade....any thought on it is appreciated! Thanks guys! Quote
Jock Posted August 28, 2007 Author Report Posted August 28, 2007 following the information to the sword (according to the seller): Please feel free to voice your opinion! - Thanks! Jock --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Japanese Samurai Katana in Shirasaya Mount, Possibly Shinto Period Total length: From the handle tip to the blade point 36" Blade: Cutting edge: 26". In original full polish. No nicks, dents, bends, pits, some opening . Narrow blade similar to a Tachi blade/sword, 1" wide. Sword is razor sharp. Habaki: Foliage design. Tang signature: Unsigned. Hamon: Beautiful irregular tempered lines, very wavy active, bumpy, bright, clear, looks like a ring of clouds and very visible and runs on both sides. The hamon covers all the way to the tip of the sword. This sword is almost perfect. I am not quite sure of the age, possibly from Shinto Period. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quote
takakage Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 Hello, in spite the maru boshi, it could be a shin shinto due to long nakago and clear yasuri mei and ara nie. it seems a very slender sword Quote
Guest Nanshoku-Samurai Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 I can tell you that the SHirasaya is made by Mike Virgadamo The blade is late Shinshinto. Max Quote
Tokaido Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 Hi, nice looking sword. Hizen something? I hesitate to ask: Looking at the forth pic, I wonder what that bright line visible at the hasaki approximately 1 inch right of the kake is? Greetings Quote
takakage Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 strange line, isn't it, hope that there isn't same line to the other side otherwise we could think hagire ihave got a shira saya of same sayashi, very well done Quote
Martin Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 I can tell you that the SHirasaya is made by Mike Virgadamo Hi Max, how can you tell the maker of a Shirasaya just from a few pictures... Quote
Brian Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 Sounds like Max knows this particular katana more than he is letting on? Brian Quote
Jock Posted August 29, 2007 Author Report Posted August 29, 2007 Hi Max! So let us know - Is this a hagire? Yes or No?? Jock Quote
Martin Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 Hi Jock, as long as this is your new blade you should be able to see it yourself... Or is this a rhetorical question cheers, Quote
Jock Posted August 30, 2007 Author Report Posted August 30, 2007 correct....but I'd like to hear what Max has to say...... Jock Quote
USMC-LCPL Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 Well, does the same line appear on both sides? That would make the answer pretty obvious... *Crosses fingers for "no"* :x Quote
Guest Nanshoku-Samurai Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 Hi all, nope that's not been one of my swords but this line looks not too good to my eyes. Check the otehr side of the blade to see if it's a Hagire. I think I had seen this sword on eBay a while ago. You can easily tell a Shirasaya maker in many cases. Miek Virgadamo uses wood which is somewhat purple colored and a distinctive black plastic peg. Regards, Max Quote
