You might consider turning the picture upright so people can read it as it's written.

You might also post a pic of the whole bare blade, no Habaki.

Hi. Is there a kanji under that habaki? The 1st visible kanji reads Tane followed by a Kao. So your mei is probably Naotane with Kao. A big name and yours doesn't look right for a number of reasons. There is the starting point for you. Info comes from Colin McDonald. Regards Mark

Me too I got the impression that the mei had rust and the rest had no remains of patina.

It made me wonder.
