phil barney Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 Hi all new to this sort of thing hope you can help! my father in law has had this sword passed down to him and we would like to know if the inscriptions can be translated looked in a book from the library and think the stamp is Seki If I can find out anything about it I can keep it Many thanks some pictures Quote
Brian Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 Hi Phil, You are correct, that is the seki stamp. Looks like YoshiAki to me, and would probably be a WW2 manufactured non-traditional sword. The engraving might be a patriotic symbol for the war. Compare the mei with the example taken from Dr Stein's page (can't access it right now) Regards, Brian Quote
Stephen Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 working at the same time  would like to see full shot of the nagasa, ive seen some blades with stamps that i feel should not be so. Quote

sencho Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 Hi Phil and welcome to the board, Good to have more and more British on here!!! Stephen means the blade length by the word NAGASA (blade length (from tip of kissaki to munemachi - the notch on the back of the sword (mune) before the nakano (tang)) I think Stephen wants to see a picture of the whole blade to get an overall impression. You will here a lot of correct Japanese terminology on the message board and this glossary will help you... I ended up printing it out when I started to make life easier!!! http://home.earthlink.net/%7Esteinrl/glossry.htm Cheers Quote
