Mark Posted November 27, 2014 Report Posted November 27, 2014 as Chris points out -- it could be a rusty 76 Chevette worth $50 or a 63 Corvette all original worth $50,000 hard to know from just a name, there were many smiths who used that name Quote
Derek Posted November 27, 2014 Report Posted November 27, 2014 http://nihontoclub.com/view/smiths/list?id_op=%3D&id=&name_op=starts&name=Nobukuni&kanji_op=%3D&kanji=&province=All&start_era=All&school_nid=All Looks like more than 60 smiths over 500 years, from Jo Jo Saku down..... Quote
bone Posted November 27, 2014 Author Report Posted November 27, 2014 Point well taken Chris. Yes Chevy is a good car if it's a 68 Camaro in perfect shape. Not a 78 with fenders whose colors don't match and the engine smokes a bit. This sword has a wild hamon, is in great polish and is beautiful. So I'm guessing 1k would be a decent price no matter which one of the smiths it is. One thing I learned here and has become my mantra now. Buy the sword not the signature. Thanks for reminding me of that. Happy Thanksgiving! You guys rock! *laugh* Sometimes with real rocks but that keeps me grounded. I always appreciate feedback positive or negative and I ALWAYS pay attention to what you say Chris. Thanks again. Quote
cabowen Posted November 27, 2014 Report Posted November 27, 2014 And I always enjoy your sense of humor...Post some photos if you can and we'll see if we can figure out if it's a Chevette or a Corvette.... Quote
cabowen Posted November 29, 2014 Report Posted November 29, 2014 That's not Nobukuni, it looks like a gimei Izumi no Kami Kanesada.... Quote
bone Posted November 29, 2014 Author Report Posted November 29, 2014 Yah. The nakago looks really weird so I figured gimei. But a guy can hope right? Anyway. I still love the hamon. Despite the signature being fake what do you think about the rest of the blade. It could be any era I guess but a hamon like that leaves an ignorant fool breathless. Which is why I ask on here. Quote
cabowen Posted November 29, 2014 Report Posted November 29, 2014 I had a blade with a very similar hamon once by an Shinto Owari smith (Seki derivative), Yasumichi. Hard to say but the blade looks decent. Quote
bone Posted November 29, 2014 Author Report Posted November 29, 2014 Thanks Chris! It's really cheap right now but will probably jump up a lot at the end. As always my most serious thanks. Quote
Peter Bleed Posted November 29, 2014 Report Posted November 29, 2014 I'll have to check my books, but I think this sword is signed "Ford, Fairlane" and if my guess is correct, the nakago comes with a Maaco refinish certificate. Peter Quote
