Ron STL Posted November 26, 2014 Report Posted November 26, 2014 Examined an interesting sue-koto katana a few days ago (sorry, no photos) which was signed Fujiwara ju Yasutomo. While a very nice blade in original koshirae (possibly and only found in Hawley), I am puzzled by the "Fujiwara ju" part of the mei. As we know, Fujiwara is a clan name, but being followed by "ju" (resident of) seems strange. Hawley lists this fellow as from Yamato, but I can not find a town named Fujiwara. I'm hoping somebody can explain this for me. Meanwhile, Happy Thanksgiving! Ron STL Quote
k morita Posted November 27, 2014 Report Posted November 27, 2014 Hi, 藤原住安友 Fijiwara ju Yasutomo. Fujiwara is a place name in Yamato (Nara) province. now Fujiwara town in Nara city. Other example: Fujiwara ju Noriyasu 則安 in Yamato. http://www.e-sword.jp/sale/0810_1116syousai.htm Quote
Ron STL Posted November 27, 2014 Author Report Posted November 27, 2014 Thank you very much Morita san. This is interesting to know this. Now the mei makes good sense. Ron STL Quote
