murphda2 Posted August 24, 2007 Report Posted August 24, 2007 Does anyone have reference to this smith? The blade is dated 1943. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Murph Quote
huntershooter Posted August 24, 2007 Report Posted August 24, 2007 Sloughs book "Modern Japanese Swordsmiths" lists a (Furukawa) Kanesada. Rates him @ 3.8 million yen (quite high), superior grade gendaito. Born 1837, worked from 1852 thru 1874. Doubtful this is your Kanesada in view of the 1943 date. "Tosho Banzuke" (list of 400+- gunto smiths) lists a Takahashi Kanesada-rated "Ge Saku"and Okada Kanesada-rated "Chuge Saku". Yor blade is most likely showa-to, non traditionally forged (wartime), oil quenched blade. Photo's of blade, nakago/mei are in order. Quote
murphda2 Posted August 25, 2007 Author Report Posted August 25, 2007 The photos I currently have are fairly large files. I have loaded the pics to a photo site and posting a link where they may be viewed. The signature may turn out to be false, my level of knowledge can not support guaranteeing it original. I do believe the blade is water quenched though. http://community.webshots.com/album/560425779DTnfjD Murph Quote
