Peter Bleed Posted November 21, 2014 Report Posted November 21, 2014 Marius, I think these are all publications that reflect the bust of sword interest that marked the 1970s. IMO, this happened because the flood of swords that followed the feeding frenzy of the sword buyers who made the trip to the US required some market development in Japan. All of a sudden dealers had lots of swords to sell so they needed to train Japanese collectors. The story I was told is that Wakizashi were slow movers soooo, Shibata published a number of books on shoto. These were cheap and mass marketed 1 is Wakizashi nyumon (Intro to Wakizashi) 2 is Shumei Nihonto (Taste of Sword 3 Hyakken HyakuNANI ( 100 Wakizashi 100 stories Tosho Zenshu- should be two volumes 5 Wakizashi no NANINANI (Power of Wakizashi, I guess) 6 Token Mei ji Ten (dictrionary of sword signature,) 8 Momoyama Jidai no Token Peter Quote
Toryu2020 Posted November 21, 2014 Report Posted November 21, 2014 脇差入門 - Wakizashi Nyumon as stated may be a Shibata publication. 趣味の日本刀 Shumi no Nihonto - an introductory text, reprinted many times very common. 百剣百話 Hyakken Hyaku wa - 100 swords 100 stories, collectors talk about their favorite swords. 刀匠全集 Tosho Zenshu - a mini meikan and as stated usually two volumes, very common. 脇差の魅力 Wakizashi no Miryoku - the charm of wakizashi by Shibata. 日本刀辞典 Nihonto Jiten - a price book, many editions very common. 刀剣銘字典 Token Meijiten - The only one I haven't seen or do not recall seeing. 桃山時代の刀剣 Momoyama Jidai no Token - an exhibition catalog. They can all be found for around $10 except the Meijiten which looks like it sells for around $30. Good information perhaps but most of it will be found in other texts. mho -t Quote
