What piss me off is, I didnt think it was kanemitsu, but what I wanted to know was WHO actually made it and I never got that. I might flip it on ebay and sell it as is and be done with it, this is getting frustrating and it is leading nowhere.

Regards,

If we assume it's gimei, it is impossible to say who made it for sure... If the mei was removed, and the blade put to shinsa, you might get an attribution to a school, and even then it's only an educated opinion. Learning about Japanese swords is rarely easy, so if you don't find it enjoyable, what's the point?

You are right, but I got carried away... I highly dislike being played as a fool and for a moment I thought that i was dealing with an expert, which made me a fool and I dont react well to it, apologises.

Im thinking about sending it to you Chris but i fear the wrong mei would get the blade flagged as gemei and nobody would look at it from that point on, do you think theres a way to have it hidden such as in kentai? hehe.

anyways, thanks for your time guys, I appreciate it.

Remy,

Trust me...if swords could be accurately (or even slightly consistently) kantei'd via the internet, photos and this forum..then I would firstly be charging for membership here...and secondly, shinsa's would be very different

No..it is very unlikely to get a smith from pics on a forum. Even trying to narrow down to a period or school is very difficult, and needs at least some distinct features that stand out.

The best you can get is an opinion, and many won't give that because we all know the odds of it being highly accurate. Treat all info as an opinion, let's all be grateful for the info we do get, and treat this as a bunch of people trying to share what they do know, whilst learning what they can from a medium that is far from ideal.

I thought that even though a sword is rated as Gimei (pink slipped if I am correct) The Shinsa team still make some form of attribution to the possible maker. After that you can always have the mei removed and resubmit it to shinsa.

Is that correct ?

No, not correct. If it's declared gimei, the shinsa team will not make any further determination. You need to remove mei and resubmit.

If you submit it to the NTHK-NPO Shinsa in Tampa next February, if it fails, they will give an opinion as to period and possible school. This will go on the worksheet but you will not get kantei-sho (papers). I have asked them to do this because people should get more for their $100 than a pink slip. They did it at the last shinsa we held in Minneapolis.

Shinsa results are confidential. Only you and the team will know the results. What you choose to do with the info is your business.

If you have any other questions about the shinsa, please email or pm me.
