eire Posted August 23, 2007 Author Report Posted August 23, 2007 and i have more pictures if anyone wants me to send them.. Edited to add: This blade was made at the Yasukuni shrine, and we think it was made by yasatoku... if anyone can verify this by the pics supplied or just tell me what you think Quote
Brian Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Hi Eire, (Please sign with a real name, thanks) Please could you post a pic of the whole nakago for us? Maybe just me, but it does seem signed unusually high up on the nakago? Brian Quote
BC Smith Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Hi Brian, yes I agree it does seem as though the mei is too high up on the nakago but if you have a look in Sloughs you can see that the mei is in the correct place. For this particular smith it's page 188. Bernie Quote
eire Posted August 23, 2007 Author Report Posted August 23, 2007 Thank you all, yes it is in the same place as it is in Tom Kishidas book, i will post these two images and if anyone could tell me what it says on the other side that would be great.. i have translated it to say 1939, and we think it was the fourth month. ???? BC Smith Posted August 24, 2007 Report Posted August 24, 2007 Hi very close on the date I believe its the fifth month, translation being, Showa ju yo nen go gatsu kichi jitsu, A lucky day in May 1939. It would help more if the photos were larger and the orientation of the nakago correct, that is before you upload your photo turn it 90 degrees so that the kissaki (tip/point) is at the top of the pic, saves my eyes on strain and prevents a crick in the neck. Hope I got it right someone will correct me if I'm wrong. :D Bernie Quote

Nobody Posted August 24, 2007 Report Posted August 24, 2007 Hi, I cannot say that your Yasutoku is gimei. But the writing of the mei is a little different from another mei on the following page. http://www.geocities.jp/kanetoyo2666/ya ... igata.html BTW, the correct reading of 靖徳 might be Yasunori. Quote
