Dear collectors,

Over the years, I have collected Japanese antiques of all kinds and I have gathered a little collection of different Japanese arrowheads, bought mostly in Japan and in United States from reputable antique dealers or collectors. Some of them are quite bigger than the other (please see the pencil for scale). Some are signed, the other not, they are in average, good to very good condition and date from Edo and the end of Edo. I offer no treasure here but some are quite scarce and some are not so frequently seen. I have also tried to avoid fake ones, Paul Chen types and the likes. I believe that they are all originals.

I will like to sell them but I will also accept to trade them or part trade some of them against a complete tetsu sabiji ryubu menpo or a ressei menpo or against a tetsu han-bo or tetsu kaga-bo on good condition.

What I try here is to recentre my collection. Please see here no greedy strategy.

You can ask me for details or pictures.

All sale final,

In case you buy more than one arrowhead, prices will be lowered accordingly.

Please PM me if interested.

These are a great deal, and a very nice field of collecting. You get a miniature forged iron "blade" that must have taken a lot of skill to produce.

In some cases, they even have a tiny hamon if polished, otherwise fully hardened.

Someone should take advantage of some of these rare shapes.

Following in this theme, a collection I was involved with, had arrow heads in it. These are now in auction with Bonhams London on the 26 of this month.

Perplexing to me too. :dunno:

Great items and good prices, and usually sell for more than this even on eBay.

Where are the yajiri collectors? Too close to Xmas?

Dear Brian,

I understood that sales topics are not meant for discussion, but since you asked the question I'll answer it; Lately I see a lot of comments in the line of "good deal, someone should grab this...". Various members make these comments on various items offered for sale.

Just as now I sometimes feel personally addressed in these cases. Am I that someone? Should I really grab it? On the other hand, why is someone who doesn't know my position telling me what to do? And if it's really such a good deal why don't they do it themselves?!

Then in my mind the translation of these statements is that the one making them actually means;

-I like it a lot but can't afford it myself

-I like it but just not enough to spend the $$$ requested, or

-I like it but already got something similar so this does not add enough to my collection.

I guess that is what 's happening here; al lot of people will like these arrowheads very much but can't or won't spend the money to acquire them. It's been said before; swords etc are luxury items and there still is a crisis going on. $ 500 for a lovely piece of old metal or a months rent, tough choice...

Speaking for myself regarding this lot; I'm more into fullsize yari than mini-yari but if I had unlimited resources I'd buy them all in the blink of an eye! And some tusba and swords while I'm at it.... But reality for now is that I'm cursed with great taste and limited budget.

So that's my side of the story, probably resembles yours and a lot of members very much.

Best regards,

Eric K.

You forgot one reason Eric:

I acknowledge the quality of the item but it does not fit my collecting interest.

This is the case for me. I am focussing only in Gokaden and have just completed my collection, will post some pictures before year end (I hope so).

I have seen fantastic tsuba passing in the last months and had refrained myself from buying some.

In general, in the Sale section, objects are dirty cheap compared to their quality.

Personally I am paying off a debt for my last sword purchase. SO I'm not buying. Once I pay off the debt I need to save to buy something again. Yes there have been some excellent items on offer at great prices but you can only spend the money once. I have often thought great deal but not posted that as it is up to the buyer to see the great deal as a great deal for him/her. Today I was offered a great deal. If I had the money O would have jumped on it. The seller was also in need of money so the price was low.

Dear Bryan,

Here are pictures of #13. The connection between petals are fine with a little kizu on one liaison put it is still solid.

PS: I am quite surprised of the number of post this topic has. Anyway, be assured that I am not relying on that sale to survive. Moreover, I am quite confident that little by little those arrowheads will go.

Eric,

To answer your question...

We see a lot of items listed here, and a lot get sold, and a lot don't. As you know, I don't encourage discusison of items, and no bad comments about pricing. Most items are just listed at X price, and either sell or don't.

However, quite often, you get an item that is really a good deal. Not just an average item at a fair price, but something that is selling for a price that is below what we would consider market price. Something that would probably sell for more than the asking price on eBay or a sword show.

Yes..this is subjective, and often the poster's opinion, but it is these times that you will find myself, or the more advanced collectors, posting a comment about a great deal. In these cases, it is usually a simple way of saying "I can't take advantage of that offer right now for various reasons, but for others who may be consiering it or have the money available...jump at it, as it is a great deal"

You see this with Mariousz tsuba, and some of the swords lately. And the fact that they sell soon after usually means the poster had a good eye.

There are no guarantees, but check out who is commenting and who is selling, and note that the item is probably not one that will last long.

We also do it so that newcommers who haven't quite gotten their eye in yet can have a closer look and see if they can pick up a deal.

Great pieces... As a collector of Japanese stone points I have an interest in these . I also collect American Indian stone points , some of which

look a great deal like Japanese stone points . Especially the tapered stemmed types. I will have to purchase one of these ..... James
