kusunokimasahige Posted October 22, 2014 Report Posted October 22, 2014 There are strange ads appearing all of a sudden in the NMB pages. It is the only site which has this in my browser, even though I use adblock Plus. Any info on this ? see screenshot. KM Quote
John A Stuart Posted October 22, 2014 Report Posted October 22, 2014 Have you downloaded a new program? this is usually found in a bundle. Look for newly installed programs in your control panel with the date around when this started and delete it. It is adware and slipped by your adblock. John Quote
Brian Posted October 22, 2014 Report Posted October 22, 2014 It is definitely not the forum, it is your pc. You have malware. It is not popup advertising, so Adblockers won't stop it. You need a malware scan. Download Malwarebytes free, and scan your pc. It will find it. Brian Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted October 22, 2014 Author Report Posted October 22, 2014 Not downloaded anything recently nor clicked on any email links. This might be mozilla related but the strange thing is that it only happens with the NMB page and no other pages. KM Quote
Brian Posted October 22, 2014 Report Posted October 22, 2014 Irrelevant. It is your browser. You picked up a malicious add-on. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/937969 http://botcrawl.com/how-to-remove-text-enhance/ Brian Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted October 22, 2014 Author Report Posted October 22, 2014 Yup ! Problem solved now. Thank you. Must have either been downloaded with the latest episode of Sons of Anarchy Resurrection, Star Wars Rebels, Supernatural or Once upon a time. I only have downloaded those last week using VUZE. Davis Posted October 23, 2014 Report Posted October 23, 2014 Brian Some weeks ago I experienced a similar problem but managed to resolve it. This however prompts me to ask what might appear to many to be a couple of naive questions. When I log on with my user name, my email address appears momentarily. Can others on line at the same time see this too? Likewise, when I browse my files can others see what I'm doing? Why I ask is that my email address is known only to a handful of people and I never receive spam, yet lately I've had quite a bit. Brian, this really is an excellent forum and I have gleaned a tremendous amount from it and hope that you don't mind me asking something so very basic. Mick Quote
Brian Posted October 23, 2014 Report Posted October 23, 2014 Nope. Email addresses are hidden from public view and cannot be accessed by anyone besides admin staff. Only if you post it publicly in a topic. No, no-one can view your files or access any private info at all. I sympathise. I am suddenly getting over 100 spam emails a day. But it isn't from the forum. Just too many other ways for them to harvest emails and companies love selling email lists nowdays. Brian Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted October 23, 2014 Author Report Posted October 23, 2014 Indeed probably not the forum but how do you explain that at times in the small list of people online (users browsing this forum) on the bottom of the page the words Google.bot are seen ? KM Quote
Grey Doffin Posted October 23, 2014 Report Posted October 23, 2014 There has to be some way to connect the people who generate spam with the people of ISIS who want to cut off the heads of westerners. Make everyone happy. Grey Quote
Brian Posted October 23, 2014 Report Posted October 23, 2014 Indeed probably not the forum but how do you explain that at times in the small list of people online (users browsing this forum) on the bottom of the page the words Google.bot are seen ? KM How else do you think pages are indexed by search engines? How are you able to find the content of the forum by doing a search? Search engines are forever visiting and indexing forums by sending "bots" to index the pages and add the contents to the engines. I choose not to hide them (some of them) and that's why you see bots listed as visiting the forum. They cannot access anything you cannot, they just add the contents of the forum to Google search and others. Brian Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted October 24, 2014 Author Report Posted October 24, 2014 Ah thank you for that info Brian ! Always had a healthy vigilance around any BOT. KM Quote
xcivicdx Posted November 8, 2014 Report Posted November 8, 2014 yea looks like bot/malware, people advertise via ppv adnetworks and they target people who install the software by accident. bryan Quote
