kusunokimasahige Posted October 17, 2014 Report Posted October 17, 2014 My thought: The mei looks chiseled by an amateur, the sunflower looks ridiculous. KM Quote
Uechi Posted October 17, 2014 Report Posted October 17, 2014 My thought: The mei looks chiseled by an amateur, the sunflower looks ridiculous. KM That's not a sunflower it is a Chrysanthemum symbol. In any event, it looks like the habaki was pounded to make it fit. 19K really? This is the kind of thing you would have to see in person and know what you are looking for, Anybody that would pay anything without verification would be crazy.Very poor looking workmanship on the mei and the chrysanthemum. D McCutcheon Posted October 17, 2014 Report Posted October 17, 2014 I am a newbie to forum and Nihonto collecting but I think the guide of if it looks too good to be true it is! pretty much is the best rule of thumb, the chrysanthemum doesnt look like examples I have seen, the handle appears to be a an upmarket officers, the saya is from whats visible a poor example of an officers gunto saya, the papers with this seems genuine but again I could run off a few genuine looking papers from my own printer. I am myself very wary nowadays I am a collector of old military medals and from ebay I have acquired a large collection of fakes, some of them indistinguishable from the real thing but still fakes, a fake in that good is a replica sold from a reputable rteplacement medal manufacturer with replica marks removed, since the medals made to spec you dont get the usual shifts or size mismatches. I am fairly sure those tricks are employed with all antiques nowadays though so be careful. Quote
hxv Posted October 17, 2014 Report Posted October 17, 2014 As pointed out already, 100% gimei without having to look up references. Hoanh Quote
Justin Grant Posted October 17, 2014 Report Posted October 17, 2014 If you look a the bid history, and the one that keeps pushing the bid, you see this history So this is a shill bidder for the seller. That should tell you something. 30-Day Summary Total bids: 5 Items bid on: 2 Bid activity (%) with this seller: 80% Help Bid retractions: 0 Bid retractions (6 months): 13 Quote
hxv Posted October 17, 2014 Report Posted October 17, 2014 For crying out loud, a genuine Inoue Shinkai daito, papered and in OK polish, can be had for much cheaper than this silly shill bidding charade. Go figure! Hoanh http://www.aoijapan.com/katana-inoue-iz ... i-kunisada Quote
