LakeBum Posted October 14, 2014 Report Posted October 14, 2014 First off I'm not buying this but for knowledge sake, why is this going so cheap still? I know it will prob snipe up about 200 dollars the last few min but 30 min out and still under 200 dollars? Its in old polish and the saya is way rustic but still.....is there some flaw my noob eyes aren't seeing? http://www.ebay.com/itm/antique-Japanes ... 3a98b9a3d2 Thanks for your time! Quote
Marius Posted October 14, 2014 Report Posted October 14, 2014 $,$$$ for a polish, $$$ for shirasaya, $$$ for habaki. So, after spending $2,000 (at least) on something that might turn out to be a very ordinary ko-wakizashi, would it still be cheap? Quote
Stephen Posted October 14, 2014 Report Posted October 14, 2014 IM sure Mark is asking the same question, my guess cost to restore? Quote
LakeBum Posted October 14, 2014 Author Report Posted October 14, 2014 Ah thanks! 163$ for an actual traditionally made blade though is dang cheap I thought though. Most of the time they go for at least 500. I was just wondering if there was some fatal flaw to the blade. If only I was my own togishi Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted October 14, 2014 Report Posted October 14, 2014 Not certain why. Might be some people thought to see a hagire near the habaki *last images* Nice project blade though. KM Quote
Brian Posted October 14, 2014 Report Posted October 14, 2014 Mark, you should have promo'd it a bit here. Would have gone at least twice that. Was indeed a good deal. Wonder if a member got it? Brian Quote
Mark Posted October 14, 2014 Report Posted October 14, 2014 Brian and all nothing wrong with it other than what you saw. I am quite sure there was no hagire, I would have noted it, I had it at several shows and no one looking at it in hand said anything about possible hagire. It was a real, antique, handmade blade, probably Koto but I am not going to restore it, just merchandise. I had it at several shows as I mentioned, I think I was asking $295. I put it on eBay as an experiment to see what happened, someone had suggested it may be a good place to sell lower end swords, guess not (at least not for me). I have some other swords like that, maybe I will list them here in the future, but one reason I did not is time and aggravation. I am leaving for the Phily show tomorrow and will take most of my stuff there (if you are in the area it should be worth visiting). I don't think anyone missed a treasure (but you newer know, I am told o sold a couple of great swords at a recent show for less than $500 each), it just was a project. It was paid for and in the mail, I did not recognize the buyers name so do not think a NMB member. Quote
reeder Posted October 14, 2014 Report Posted October 14, 2014 IMHO, I just don't think people are spending money right now. I watch knives more than I do swords, but knives are going half of what you expect them to unless it's excellent/mint condition or a rare piece. with the depressed prices right now, you're not seeing a whole lot of good knives going up either. if they are, they're going up at buy now only, knife guys aren't wanting to give their loved ones away.
