jrmy_1 Posted October 8, 2014 Report Posted October 8, 2014 My father received a Japanese sword from a friend that needed money. The guy got it from his father who was in the war in SE Asia. He asked my dad to sell it for him so my dad said he'd put it on craigslist. I told him that is not the venue for selling a sword like that so I told him I'd try to figure out where to sell it and how much its worth. So that's how I found this forum. More info. on the sword, approximate value and potential selling venue would be greatly appreciated. Thx, J Quote
cabowen Posted October 8, 2014 Report Posted October 8, 2014 This is an NCO (non-commissioned officer) sword from WWII. They are machine made and not traditionally made Japanese swords. There is considerable collector interest in them from those that collect WWII memorabilia. I would suggest checking ebay for NCO Japanese sword. I have no doubt you will see several for sale at any given time. One rare variant, with a copper handle I believe, seems to fetch several thousand dollars. Best of luck. Quote
Surfson Posted October 8, 2014 Report Posted October 8, 2014 It's worth up to a thousand bucks or so. Not bad considering they went for less than a $100 25 years ago. Quote
Brian Posted October 9, 2014 Report Posted October 9, 2014 $1K is very optimistic. I think to move it, you would need to ask about $700 or so. Lots around that price range. Incredible..more than many Shingunto made by a smith. It wasn't long ago these were $300 all day on eBay. Bizarre. Brian Quote
