nanako punch- single or multi punch

hello gentlemen,

here is a fuchi/kashira pair where i would consider a multi nanako punch (6/8 dots) was used to cover the main area of the surface and only near the ornaments a single punch filled up the gaps...

 

i think this was quite common or is it way off and my eyes are :freak:

I'm thinking it would likely be a single punch, or a series of them to be rotated out as they wore down. A single punch allows greater control in how the pattern is applied, as well as being more versatile.
