jjones Posted August 28, 2014 Report Posted August 28, 2014 Thought I'd share this one with the group. Be interested to hear what folks think. Any thoughts as to which Masatsune this is? Jeff Jones Quote
Kevin Adams Posted August 28, 2014 Report Posted August 28, 2014 Do you have a shot of the other side as well? Quote
sabi Posted August 28, 2014 Report Posted August 28, 2014 Fabulous composition here. Looks like the view you would get if you stuck your head into a cloud of blossoms. Quote
Brian Posted August 28, 2014 Report Posted August 28, 2014 There were quite a few of them during the 1800's. Not easy to know which one this was. Eg: W: Bushu ju, and Choshu juD: ca. 1800 NTS: this artist worked both at Edo and in Nagato Province. Some say he is also the Ito school artist of this name, H 04737. None of this is proved, and as in so many of the Ito school artists, there seems to be several generations who used the same name during the Edo period Quite a few more. Brian Quote
jjones Posted August 28, 2014 Author Report Posted August 28, 2014 Thanks guys. Here is the other side. As to the maker I'm assuming one of the Masatsunes from 1800 or so as well. Seems too late and clean to be the earlier headmaster H 04737.0. Hard to say but does appear to be very good at his craft (at least in my opinion). Jeff Jones Quote

Soshin Posted August 28, 2014 Report Posted August 28, 2014 Hi Jeff, I remember seeing it right after you purchased it. Really great tsuba! Thanks for sharing it on NMB. Don't really care to much about the linage of the Bushū Ito school. Mostly I just put then into two groups the many I don't like and the few that I do like. Your tsuba is in the small select group that I do like. Quote
Kevin Adams Posted August 28, 2014 Report Posted August 28, 2014 Here is the other side. I can't see an image. Is it an issue on my end? Quote

Kevin Adams Posted September 2, 2014 Report Posted September 2, 2014 Aaah, I see it now! I've been looking at quite a few Bushu/Choshu tsuba recently trying to get a feel for the carving technique and approach to composition - thank you for sharing this, I rather like it. Quote
