I have had swords treated with both choji and camellia oil rust. The appeal to me of the Break Free Collector product is that it was specifically designed to prevent corrosion for extended periods, has been tested, and has been proven by testing to do exactly what it was designed for.

has the collector CLP product ever discolored the steel? i have found some protection products will add a patina or discoloration and am hesitant to use anything other than light mineral oil.

That might be the key to why one coat can prevent rust. From my own experience the Break Free Collector does add a very slight patina but only on certain blades. One particular blade I had treated with mineral oils for many years now looked more like when I first had it when the polish was fresher, I'm hesitance to say but it now look better. Could be previous owner or polisher treated the blade with similar gun oil. I guess the jury is still out.

Impressive. I ordered some to try. I like that it dries so it won't attract anything or stain the inside of the saya.

If it doesn't work out for blades, I can use it on my firearms....
