GetFuzzy2 Posted August 9, 2014 Report Posted August 9, 2014 Greetings I am at best a novice when it comes to my new hobby of collecting Japanese Swords. I picked this wak up a few months ago, I was wondering a few things, is the signature original to the sword smith or the one who cut it down and also what dose it say? Any insight would be great. Surfson Posted August 9, 2014 Report Posted August 9, 2014 Looks like Minamoto Nobukuni after a province and ju. Can't make out the location, and haven't studied the maker. Quote
george trotter Posted August 9, 2014 Report Posted August 9, 2014 I may be wrong but the nakago and machi have been "adjusted" and the province and smith mei have been removed (IMHO)...it looks to me like it might be: 1 2 Ju Minamoto Nobukuni 6 7 ..... (1 2 = province (almost obliterated from machi okuri?) and 6 7 = smith name (cut off). Nobukuni is the "school/line" not the smith name (I think).. Hope I'm not leading you astray... Quote
Geraint Posted August 9, 2014 Report Posted August 9, 2014 Unless the mei reads "Nobukuni Yoshi......" Hard to make out what the first part said but one of the Chikuzen Nobukuni school? And just to answer another question it is the smith who made the blade in this case. All the best. Quote
