  1. 1. Would you be interested in pre-paying half for this book in advance?

    • Yes, I would put down $50 now and the balance when the book is printed.

    • No, I prefer to pay the higher price when it is released.

    • Gendaito are not "my thing" and I wouldn't purchase a copy.

In this thread: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=19392 the question was raised whether members would be interested in a reduced rate on this upcoming (year end approx) book on Gendaito. This would involve about $50 up front, and the balance of $50 plus shipping when the book is released. The deposits will facilitate the release of the book by covering some of the expenses.

Estimated price on the book is expected to be about $120 plus shipping if not pre-ordered.

This poll is to gauge interest in these pre-orders, with a $50 up front payment planned.

The poll choices are non-binding, and just to gauge interest by members.

Well, my thing too and I'm "in", but one look at Chris Bowen's layout for his Tokyo Gendai book makes me wonder how Markus can get such a book out by year's end. End of 2015 I would believe. It must be a HUGE project with many of us contributing oshigata etc etc. and I simply wonder how it can be done in only a few months????

Thanks Brian for the poll. :thanks:

@Barry: :D I already corrected the date to spring next year, earliest, depending on how much material is contributed.

So far only one person sent me material (blade pics and oshigata) to my email I had created for this project. That

means I can only start to work, get an overview, and sort things when I have accumulated a decent data base.

Now this is the phase to check out if and how this project could work. I definitely want to write something on Gendaito

but I don´t want to compile some half-hearted name list or sword catalogue. Aim is something like my Index of Japanese

Swordsmiths with all detectable biographical data, work and/or signature samples, and a proper introductory part which

draws an understandable picture of the Gendaito era, namely from when Shinshinto ended to about the time when the last

WWII smiths handed-over their craft to the new generation, i.e. what we would classify today as Shinsakuto. I am aware

of the fact that I can´t go into every little detail of certain schools like Chris with the Tokyo-based smith but I will try my

best to provide solid and extensive info.

Well, this is the goal, depending on the contribution...

Come on guys, send your pictures in! I sent Markus four sets tonight. Even if they are in your file, and you don't have the sword anymore or it was from a website, send in the picture, and let Markus decide if it is worthy. It might be the only example out there! Thanks, Mike
