Bazza Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 Hmmmmmmm - my thoughts will probably see me at the end of a plank with a kissaki in my back!!!! A very nice piece. I love it to bits. Kevin Adams??? BaZZa. Quote
Thierry BERNARD Posted July 12, 2014 Author Report Posted July 12, 2014 Kevin Adams??? good try but a little older! Quote
Stephen Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 wow Bazz if that's new in your eyes I have way too much to learn. Quote
Kevin Adams Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 Very generous of you Barry, thank you. My gut is saying Hayashi, but there's something Akasaka-like about it as well... Quote
Thierry BERNARD Posted July 12, 2014 Author Report Posted July 12, 2014 not bad at all! not higo nor akasaka but not so far! Quote
Soshin Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 Tosa Myochin. Hi Everyone, I think Justin is correct. My vote is for Tosa Myochin. Quote
Ford Hallam Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 hmmm...plumping for Tosa Myochin once Akasaka and Higo are discounted seems far too safe a bet for my taste. I'd suggest this may be a Bizen Shoami version of the common Akasaka/Higo design. Quote
MauroP Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 Kyō-sukashi, late Momoyama? But the shape of hitsu-ana may suggest also Hayashi. Bye, Mauro Quote
yogoro Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 Not Tosa Myochin , rather Hayashi , I think Quote
Brian Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 I would have gone for Higo, but you have excluded that. So no Hayashi... Brian Quote
Soshin Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 I would have gone for Higo, but you have excluded that. So no Hayashi... Brian Hi Everyone, Precisely Brian it cannot be Hayashi because it is one of the four major schools of Higo Province. Thierry hint which was a big one was that the tsuba was not Higo or Akasaka. Tosa Myochin is still my vote. Quote
Thierry BERNARD Posted July 13, 2014 Author Report Posted July 13, 2014 and the answer is 土佐明珍 Tosa Myōchin Quote
Bazza Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 Ahh, yes, but that's an old NBTHK Tokubetsu Kicho. Do we believe them without a more recent submission to NBTHK or either of the NTHKs???!!!! BaZZa. Quote
Thierry BERNARD Posted July 13, 2014 Author Report Posted July 13, 2014 and do we believe a new NBTHK or NTHK kanteisho??? Quote
Dr Fox Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 Here I go again drawn into tsuba not my field but from an example my guess was this! Ready to be educated. Fusayoshi style in Higo. Quote
Soshin Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 and do we believe a new NBTHK or NTHK kanteisho??? Hi Everyone, Thierry makes a really good point. A shinsa paper is just a written highly educated opinion. Just like any other opinion it can change over time as more historical research is done. This very fine tsuba I would think would get the same call again if resubmitted to the NBTHK. If the tsuba was in my collection I wouldn't bother resubmitting it and just keep it as is. Some members of the tosa myochin (土佐明珍) school were very highly skilled at producing sukashi designs made famous by the Hayashi school. The current tsuba is a perfect example of the high level of skill and workmanship utilized by the school. Check Sasano first book for other fine examples of this school's work. Quote
Thierry BERNARD Posted July 13, 2014 Author Report Posted July 13, 2014 an interesting explanation from Rich T http://www.militaria.co.za/nihontomessa ... 0a65ead85b Quote
yogoro Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 Yes , it can be easy to confuse Akasaka and Tosa Myochin or Myochin. If an unsigned piece. These two pieces look like Akasaka , but they are not...these are signed. Quote
yogoro Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 First is signed : Tosa Kuni Ju Myochin Ki Toshio - Tosa Myochin school Toshio 利雄 H10535.0 The second is signed : Nisshu Ju Nobuyoshi , Myochin Nobuyoshi 日州住 信吉 probably H07267 or later. Quote
Alan Morton Posted July 14, 2014 Report Posted July 14, 2014 Hi all, none the less a very good call from Justin are you making good Tsuba friends in the land of the Pommies ? Bests Alan. Quote
