b.hennick Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 I have a kozuka that is supposed to be Goto Keijo (14th gen.) I have misplaced my index to the kinko meikan and can not check the mei. Can some one please read the mei and also give me the meikan reference so that I can compare signatures? Thanks Quote
nagamaki - Franco Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 Hi Barry, for comparison http://world.choshuya.co.jp/gallary/goto/14mitsumori/kozuka16th.htm Quote
b.hennick Posted July 31, 2007 Author Report Posted July 31, 2007 Thanks Franco: This is very different from my kozuka. Mitsumori is the alternate name of Keijo. Quote
Nobody Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 Hi Barry, for comparison http://world.choshuya.co.jp/gallary/goto/14mitsumori/kozuka16th.htm Sorry, but that cannot be comparison. Unfortunately the chiseled name is Mitsumori (光守) which is another name of Keijo (桂乗). Quote

Koichi Moriyama san, respectfully, you're missing the point of my post which I believe (hope) Barry has picked up on. Tosogu are no different from swords when it comes to the work confirms the signature and not the other way around. Thank you none the less and please continue pointing such things out as you never know when i might be half asleep at this hour of the AM. Quote
Rich T Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 Tosogu are no different from swords when it comes to the work confirms the signature and not the other way around. I agree totally, you have to look at the work first before deciding on the mei. Looking though books 5 and 6 of Kanzan Token Koza (they have a lot of Goto), some of the Tosogu Bijutsukan catalogues, Toso Kodogu Meijei Taikei and the Kinko Meikan, I can only find visual examples of Mitsumori with 2 differnet kao. He is noted as being Keijo but I have yet to find a mei that reads this. In Toso Kinko Jiten, Wakayama does not mention whether he signed with Keijo and a Kao. Cheers Rich Quote
Ludolf Richter Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 The Kao of your Kozuka is to be found on page 496 of the Kinko Meikan (lower left) or (the same one) in the newer edition (Shin-san Kinko Meikan) on page 406,only in connection with his Go "Mitsumori".I couldn't find an example with his Go "Keijo".Ludolf Quote
b.hennick Posted August 1, 2007 Author Report Posted August 1, 2007 Thanks for your help. I have attached two photos of the kozuka. Much has been made of look at the work and then the mei. I agree that that is the way to go. OTH I was interested in the meikan reference so that I could see that. Here are two images of the kozuka. Quote
