isidro305 Posted July 8, 2014 Report Posted July 8, 2014 hi recent buy this sword on ebay need help on mei i ting the firs character is yasu- second maybe tada- and if is possible some info of this smith thank you all for the help isidro. Quote
Ask Posted July 8, 2014 Report Posted July 8, 2014 I like this kind of post almost no info, a name only. On a quick search I saw 1 in Showa period but you would assume more than 1 with that name. It will be interesting to see what info comes in from the experienced guys, with a name only and no pics of the sword. Quote
isidro305 Posted July 8, 2014 Author Report Posted July 8, 2014 Thanks I I search for this Mei and not info the eBay seller describe sadayuki and old family blade is the last sword from eBay for me they seen to be a Showa undocumented smiths any more help Quote
Bazza Posted July 8, 2014 Report Posted July 8, 2014 Ahhhhhh, even worse, they could be/most often are "yesterday" Chinese copies... BaZZa. Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 Yasutada was a pretty well rated smith (http://nihontoclub.com/smiths/YAS432), so while we should look at the sword to be sure this isn't a Chinese "replica", this is either gimei or undocumented as stated before. Quote
isidro305 Posted July 12, 2014 Author Report Posted July 12, 2014 thanks all for the aport i post some picture of the blade and nakago more opinion of the blade is real gendai or old from yasutada 1200-1600 Quote
Peter Bleed Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 Chinoiserie, IMHO poorly placed tachi-mei Peter Quote
hxv Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 The placement of the nakago ana is weird. The nakago looks funky - not quite correct but not obviously wrong. The yasurime seems to have been messed with. Peter already mentioned the mei. The cincher is the black leather saya cover that looks spanking new. The stitching seems to be new, too. This is something to avoid in the future. Even if it were not a Chinese fake, it would be a low-quality item not worth your hard earned dollars. Save your money for a good sword. There seems to have been a sleuth of them for sale here recently at very good prices. If you can return it, I would do so. If not, chalk it down as a learning experience. Regards, Hoanh Quote
isidro305 Posted July 14, 2014 Author Report Posted July 14, 2014 thanks again i step back on this one save little more for a good sword any recommendation on this board katana from $1200 to $1500 Isidro. Quote
Daniel Posted July 14, 2014 Report Posted July 14, 2014 Isidro I don't mean to be blunt but you won't find many good swords in the $1200-$1500 range without a lot of experience. That is if good means a blade of reasonable quality in reasonable polish without major flaws. Best Regards Daniel Quote
