Type99 Posted July 5, 2014 Report Posted July 5, 2014 Enclosed are pictures of a very hard to find Type 25 Cav sword. Research reveals this sword saw a limited service life 1893/1897 time frame before being replaced by the Type 32. Anyhow it's the only one I have manage to get my grubby paws on and add to my collection. Their is also a serial number on the scabbard drag. Any help on the small kanji marks on the blade would be appreciated. Quote
george trotter Posted July 6, 2014 Report Posted July 6, 2014 Top kanji is Hara. Can't be sure about the bottom one. Have you checked the front face of the hand guard? Sometimes there is an arsenal and a date there. Regards, Quote
Type99 Posted July 6, 2014 Author Report Posted July 6, 2014 Thanks for the reply, their are no other markings on the sword. I have seen the Tokyo arsenal mark on other Type 25 cross guards Quote
Baka Gaijin Posted July 6, 2014 Report Posted July 6, 2014 Morning Georgel, Bottom kanji 比 ? On: ひ (hi) Kun: くらべる (比べる, kuraberu) Quote
george trotter Posted July 6, 2014 Report Posted July 6, 2014 Hi guys, hard to say on second kanji...I think the left radical is hito/nimben....this is probably one for Morita san. Pity there are no marks/date on the handguard, but that happens. Regards, Quote
