Rog Posted July 3, 2014 Report Posted July 3, 2014 My most recent rescue acquisition was obviously not cared for in any kind manner. It was headed for a most certain death at a steel scrap yard. This sword of little notable significance and produced by as yet an unknown smith no doubt was carried into battle by its owner and quite possibly with that soldier at the time of their death. With that in mind I feel that it is owed a great deal more regard than it has been given, and I'm curious as to what others feel would be inclined to do with such a sword at this stage of its life..... Dave R Posted July 3, 2014 Report Posted July 3, 2014 Stabilise it, halt further corrosion and then have think about where it goes from there. You can always do more, but cannot undo what is done! Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted July 4, 2014 Report Posted July 4, 2014 Depends on what you have into it already. Might be worth it, might not. You could always have a window opened. Quote
Rog Posted July 4, 2014 Author Report Posted July 4, 2014 Not sure if I'd want to use it to prop a window open, then I'd just wind up spending the whole day killing flies and mosquito's with my wakizashi ..... although I certainly could use the practice ! Quote
Derek Posted July 4, 2014 Report Posted July 4, 2014 A "window" is a sword polishing term for having a small area polished by a professional sword polisher. Generally, a window is used to determine if the sword is worth the time and expense of a full polish. Derek (I know you may have been joking, but I was not sure of your experience....) Quote
cabowen Posted July 4, 2014 Report Posted July 4, 2014 A window on a showa-to would most likely be a waste of time...if you want to restore this, I would suggest contacting David Hophine. He does a nice job on these types of blades. Quote
Rog Posted July 4, 2014 Author Report Posted July 4, 2014 Derek - yes I was trying my hand a little humor, hope it came off as such. But, thanks for your reply. Although admittedly I am a complete novice at this I was aware of the term and meaning. Chris - I appreciate you referral, especially since I have used his services in the past. He performed a polish on my personal favorite wakizashi. If I chose to, I could shave with it and have the smoothest shave ever. I have a scar on my right thumb to prove it. Foolishly rolled my thumb over the edge while wiping it off and paid the price immediately ! ! ! Quote
