Hi all,

I have a Kozuka that must have had a kogatana fitted at some time using paper.. When I bought it, the kogatana had obviously been removed and now the Kozuka has paper left in it. Is there any way to remove this paper easily, or is this Kozuka just for display now? Anyone else had a similar problem?

I have not even tried wire or a paper clip yet: any advice is appreciated.

Thank you.

Barrie, consider yourself lucky the traditional pine tar wasn't used - you should be able to get out the paper with a pair of fine pincers.

A couple of years ago I talked a dentist I know out of some of his old instruments. There's a tiny, heart-shaped spatula, and the different spirals used for root canals that I like the best for this type of work. They don't only do the job well, it also gives me immense pleasure to imagine the agony they previously inflicted ...

got to love post that make you smile, with teeth, rather than ones that makes one slap ones forehead and go "God will he ever go away!", not this thread I think we all know who I'm talking about. Carry on, no dental tools> maybe a heavy paper clip straitened then small hook added to end.

Relax, relax. Come on. Open.

Open. It's OK.

That hurt? I should think it would.

You should take better care of your teeth. You have quite a cavity here.

- Is it safe? - I told you I can't tell you...

- Think he knows? - Of course. He's being very stubborn.

No, please. Please don't. No.

It's OK.

Is it not remarkable?

Simple oil of cloves and how amazing the results.

Life can be that simple; relief - discomfort.

Now, which of these I next apply, that decision is in your hands, so... :lipssealed:

If your'e sure it is paper then away you go. Another trick is to get a coping saw, (scroll saw?) blade, snap off the end with the pin through and use that to snag the paper. If your kozuka has had a cutlery blade fitted then the stuff they used to glue them together comes out in really hot water.

Have fun.

Geraint,

What a brilliant idea to use a Coping saw blade.. Worked a treat. Turns out my Kozuka was filled with wood. Looks like Cedar, but what ever it was, thankfully it was quite soft. I can now fit a kogatana in it. Thanks for the tip.. I will be recommending that to others with the same issue..

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one, unless your post is really relevant and adds to the topic..
