takakage Posted June 17, 2014 Report Posted June 17, 2014 In the last Nbthk monthly magazine, an astonishing shira saya. Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted June 17, 2014 Report Posted June 17, 2014 Wow, that is special. To make it stand up to numerous openings and closings without becoming loose, he chose to make that piece out of very hard walnut. Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted June 18, 2014 Report Posted June 18, 2014 Nice find, Patrick. I think I'm going to try that technique for my own Jumonji yari. Thanks! Ken Quote
estcrh Posted June 18, 2014 Report Posted June 18, 2014 Here is another type of jumonji yari saya, it uses wood slides to lock the blade in place. Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted June 19, 2014 Report Posted June 19, 2014 Eric, how does that work? Ken, yes, I agree, very tempting, but would you attempt that yourself? Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted June 19, 2014 Report Posted June 19, 2014 Me, Piers? Not on your life! Linda doesn't let me near any of our wood projects, but she's a real whiz at woodworking, & has already started making a computer drawing of what she wants to make as a shirasaya. I've beaten the bushes at eBay & our local gun shows looking for a shirasaya for our Jumonji, but with zero luck, so after two years, Linda has the ball. Ken Quote

Bugyotsuji Posted June 19, 2014 Report Posted June 19, 2014 I'm convinced! Just putting out a few feelers as to possible costing... Quote
