Ludolf Richter Posted June 11, 2014 Report Posted June 11, 2014 Hi,there are two nice Tsuba at a German auction to come. Both with big names:Issando Joi,the other with (Nara) Toshinaga, both dated:see pic. They look very similar to me:a 19th Century-Gimei from the same artist?!Ludolf Quote
seattle1 Posted June 11, 2014 Report Posted June 11, 2014 Hello: Schrecklich!!! Whatever they are, fake, reproduction or genuine mei, they could not possibly be considered to be tsuba! What auction is offering such things? Arnold F. Quote
Geraint Posted June 11, 2014 Report Posted June 11, 2014 Hi Ludolf. If they are over sized then almost certainly produced at the turn of the 20th century. Large brass tsuba, usually one sided in their decoration made for export. small sized nakago ana and no seppa dai. All the best. Oh and nothing to do with the two mei. Quote
Brian Posted June 14, 2014 Report Posted June 14, 2014 I know Pete secretly really loves tsuba like this. I was waiting for his reply... Brian Quote
Soshin Posted June 14, 2014 Report Posted June 14, 2014 Putting jokes aside I agree with Arnold F., what auction house in their right mind would have these "things" up for auction as tsuba? Quote
Geraint Posted June 14, 2014 Report Posted June 14, 2014 Probably not going to appeal to most tsuba collectors but to a collector of Meiji metalwork...... ? These two look better in the catalogue and are what they are, they also seem to be part of a small collection, one or two pieces of which are quite good. Quote
Ludolf Richter Posted June 14, 2014 Author Report Posted June 14, 2014 There are 4 more Tsuba,at least three of them doubtful:see pic.Look at their guarantee:"We at ( I have omitted the real name of the Online Auction House.Ludolf) value trust the most, which is why we provide buyers with a 25-year guarantee of authenticity on all items put up for sale with us. Every item in our auctions and online shop has been thoroughly examined, valued and verified to be genuine by our experts."!?.Ludolf Quote

The first two pieces claimed to be from the middle Edo Period and clearly are not! Quote
