Hi Ludolf.

If they are over sized then almost certainly produced at the turn of the 20th century. Large brass tsuba, usually one sided in their decoration made for export. small sized nakago ana and no seppa dai.

All the best.

Oh and nothing to do with the two mei.

Putting jokes aside I agree with Arnold F., what auction house in their right mind would have these "things" up for auction as tsuba?

Probably not going to appeal to most tsuba collectors but to a collector of Meiji metalwork...... ? These two look better in the catalogue and are what they are, they also seem to be part of a small collection, one or two pieces of which are quite good.

There are 4 more Tsuba,at least three of them doubtful:see pic.Look at their guarantee:"We at

( I have omitted the real name of the Online Auction House.Ludolf) value trust the most, which is why we provide buyers with a 25-year guarantee of authenticity on all items put up for sale with us. Every item in our auctions and online shop has been thoroughly examined, valued and verified to be genuine by our experts."!?.Ludolf

Hi Ludolf,

With that statement the next question I would like to ask who are those "experts" the auction house uses to examine, value, and verify each piece? The first two pieces claimed to be from the middle Edo Period and clearly are not! :steamed:
