Hi all,

Picked up this Kozuka a while back and noticed that it's the same on both sides :?:

Has anyone seen anything like it before ?

I think someone has soldered two fronts together.

Opinions/ideas anyone.

Many thanks for your help

regards

Agree with Franco,

When the demand for sword fittings wasn't there anymore in the Meiji period, then the fittings makers turned to making anything else they could.

Many kozuka makers turned to those fancy kitchen-type knives that use a regular cutlery knife blade, and on many of these we see these double sided kozuka. Not very sought after I'm afraid, kind of mass production.

Hi Franco and Brian,

Thanks for that, just I'd never seen one before.

I'll put a sharp knife in it and give it to the wife to peel vegatables with

Kind regards

Hey Carlo,

well, it sure took you long enough to find it

now, when it comes to things nihonto there are almost always exceptions to every rule to be discovered.

but, maybe not so fast :doubt:

the real question is, is that a double sided kozuka that found a ko gatana or a ko gatana that found a double sided kozuka?

Yeah, totally agree that's a fake but I was thinking what the hell passed in the mind of the maker when he depicted that archer...

The mounting of the Sunnobi Tanto which this kozuka is on, has been

looted and I think nothing of the original remains other then the Menuki and possibly Fuchi/Kashira...

Depending on how they are manufactured, it is possible to file one side of these cutlery handles flat. Then you end up with a kodzuka handle.
