Guido Posted May 30, 2014 Report Posted May 30, 2014 The Masamune Award (for producing nie of the most outstanding quality) is seldomly granted, and even mukansa (but not ningen kokuhō) are eligible for this most distinguished prize. I don't remember when it was last awarded; the Kawachi Kunihira sword should be spectecular! Quote
John A Stuart Posted May 30, 2014 Report Posted May 30, 2014 Until this one the last was Miyairi Norihiro in 2010. Masamune prize winners in the past were Sumitani Seiho (3 times), Gassan Sadakazu (2 times), Oosumi Shunpei (3 times), and Yakuwa Yasutake (1 time). John Quote
cabowen Posted May 30, 2014 Report Posted May 30, 2014 Kawachi Kunihira is arguably the best of the current smiths in my opinion. His work is just plain excellent. I would like to see him as the next ningen kokuho... Quote
