bobtail44 Posted May 26, 2014 Report Posted May 26, 2014 Didn't some phoenix/chicken headed katana(s) go missing after WW2? Surely it wasn't like this one, which has very poor looking koshire. The second one looks better but I wouldn't know what to look for if buying one. Is there a recommend text on these or other missing swords? I like treasure hunting. :D http://www.ebay.com/itm/Signed-Japanese ... 3f353b1966 http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Japanese-SAMURAI ... 1071335830? Trent Spencer Quote
Geraint Posted May 26, 2014 Report Posted May 26, 2014 Hi Trent. Do a search on the board for Bird head tachi, they come up from time to time and if you scroll down the page you will see a download from Markus with lots of info. There is a very famous pair which are sumptuous beyond belief and are in the form of male and female pheasant. The two you link to are unusual but...... A recent one was listed as gendai, you might try a look at Aoi Art for the example. All the best Quote

I downloaded the pdf very interesting, I have never seen a whole sword made into the form of an animal. On a side note Aoi art seems very overpriced. Cheers, Trent Spencer Quote
Geraint Posted May 26, 2014 Report Posted May 26, 2014 It is interesting to see what commands a high price in Japan, there are certainly some surprises as far as koshirae are concerned. All the best. Quote
benatthelake Posted May 29, 2014 Report Posted May 29, 2014 viewtopic.php?f=2&t=16819 Previously discussed on this thread as well...including a comment from Markus S. and a link to his book/chapter. This is from my friend's collection....but missing some parts on the saya however. Got to wonder how somebody "lost" those... People seem to love or hate these "torikubi no tachi"..... I find them interesting only.... Ben M. Quote
