The serial number range for these is as below.  It is unknown if this was only used on Nagamitsu 長光 or for all production from Ōsaka Arsenal.

0 (zero) series: 阪 1867 to 阪 3991.

1st series: 阪 イ313.

Three of them can be seen at this link Stamp Survey while 3991 can be found at Nagamitsu Type44 Mounting. New Today ! .

I have one Gassan Sakakatsu but the order is reversed, 1 and then 阪.  In addition, it is star stamped unlike the swords above so it could be unrelated.

Woah Bruce big work on that chart!!

Good info collected thru the time!

Thanks for sharing this!!!

I notice a little error in the chart .....

My Nagamitsu type 3 serial number

Is 1867 not 1861

When i bought the Nagamitsu,i ask the seller if he have some info about the blade....he told me that he bought it a couple years ago from a guy in the USA, and told me a war time storie about a GI's unit that found a lot of around 200 brand new type 3 gunto that have been never delivered to soldier, the GI's split the lot between them and bring them back home, and thats why we can find a lot of Nagamitsu blade in superb condition!!! They never see the battlefield !

Have you ever ear  this storie before?

Regards

Eric

Thanks Eric, it's fixed.

I have not heard that story, but it wouldn't surprise me a bit.  I'm sure at war's end, there were hundreds of sword shops, antique stores, forges, and arsenal warehouses loaded with gunto in process of distribution.
