Bazza Posted May 23, 2014 Report Posted May 23, 2014 Dear Ffolke, On top of the success of Ford Hallam and Andrew Ickeringill in Japanese sword arts contests, non-Japanese are also excelling in Yabusame. I must say this was real news to me AND the link sent to me by a mate who has little interest in things Japanese, but knows my passion. Check it out: http://www.abc.net.au/local/photos/2014 ... 006653.htm Bestests, BaZzZa. Quote

george trotter Posted May 24, 2014 Report Posted May 24, 2014 Bazza san, thanks for the post. Great to see the spirit alive in Australia. I would have loved to have seen it but I am 3000 mile away...dang! Last (only) time I saw an archery match in Japan it was women...they shot across a steep gully with a creek running between them and the targets. Absolutely fantastic....there is something special about watching women archers...such calm faces, steely eyes, chillingly measured movements, concentrated effort and deadly accuracy! I'm sure they would have held their line against any cavalry charge. My daughter practised kyudo in Japan but had to give it up on returning here as no-one does it in Perth. I'm sure she, and me, would have enjoyed the Yabusame... Thanks again Baz, Regards Quote
Dr Fox Posted May 24, 2014 Report Posted May 24, 2014 I just think its brilliant, that the idea of taking this amazing sport out of Japan, and possible touring with it, is a reality. And opening it up to all Nations competitors, would make it an Olympic possibility. And why not? Look at the combination of skills that are embraced. Not to mention the spectator thrill. Quote
