Jean Posted May 6, 2014 Report Posted May 6, 2014 On behalf of a friend. What does represent this mon? does it belong to a clan? Thanks for him in advance Quote
Baka Gaijin Posted May 6, 2014 Report Posted May 6, 2014 Good evening Jean, The only Kamon I could find with crossed bars are Sumitate Kutsuwa, Kutsuwa Hishi & Niwa Chigai Ki, these are usually enclosed shapes, nothing with two open sides. Cheers Quote
Jean Posted May 6, 2014 Author Report Posted May 6, 2014 Some suggested the seat used by Generals on battle fields. Quote
george trotter Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 Jean san, P.66 of Hawley-Chappelear "Mon" book shows a Ryugo (a part of a spinning wheel...probably a frame for reeling the thread). It is very similar to yours except laying horizontal (yours seems to be standing vertical). I maybe totally wrong, but maybe...? Regards, Quote
Toryu2020 Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 Jean - Try doin a search for Ryugo... -t Quote
Jean Posted May 7, 2014 Author Report Posted May 7, 2014 Thanks a lot guys, I knew I could count on your expertise. :D Quote
Barrie B Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 Hawley and Chappellear also show Suji-chigai Mon (crossed timbers) on page 95 so it might be a variation on this, but I agree that it also does look a bit like Ryugo; even though the top and bottom cross-bar do not clearly indicate Ryugo.. Barrie. Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 There is a Ryugo type called 立つ字 Ryugo which is also close. Quote
george trotter Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 Ah, yes...that is it. Tatsu Ryugo = "Standing Ryugo"...like yours Jean. What a team of detectives we have. :D Quote
Alex A Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 Forget my detective work, an Indiana Jones moment, im over it now :D Quote
tony edmunds Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 Hi Jean Could this be Sugi-Chigai ( crossed timbers) of Niwa Nagahide as per Japanese Mon page 95? I think the horizontal bars are a stylistic distraction. Regards Tony Quote
