Now id like some opinions on the current project, looks just ok? too hokie?

budget did not allow for new habaki and seepa. The habaki was a found item from a gunto, sliver wash that was mostly gone, and a few old brass/copper seppa i had in the house.

after a few trys i got the liver of Sulpher to patia them to where im ok with for now.

Looks ok to me....lots going on in that hamon too.

Habaki and seppa are fine...no need to upgrade unless something about them bugs you. Someone will come up with cheap and nice seppa. habaki is fine as is.

Why 4 seppas?looks way off.

I prefer the seppa gold coloured/brass. Better contrast with the tsuba (which looks quite nice)

Not bright polished brass...just slightly aged but still gold coloured brass.

I'm guessing if it is using 4 seppa, then the spacing calls for 4 seppa. Might want to grab some thicker brass and make 2 of those thicker seppa with edge decoration.

I have two gold foil in mind but need the funds, maybe after i do some shipping.

 

and right at moment i need four for a tight fit of the tsuka tsuba

What colour is the habaki under that patina? You say it was silver washed once...should be a piece of cake to get it silver washed again? Probably some online instructions on doing some home electroplating. Think silver or brass shows off darker tsuba more. On kinko tsuba....darker habaki/seppa. That's just my own opinion.

I have been where you are now, and your good luck is getting an habaki, that not only fits but looks as if it belongs.

 

So thats obviously a great start point, but for me a copper, gold or silver finish would be the look.

 

The distance between the fuchi and habaki base is the only problem you have to solve.

 

In your case again you are nearly there, I can only echo that two thicker seppa will serve, and made by yourself will be a delight to you.

 

I have in the past been able to change the tsuba, from thin to thick, and vice versa, but on a wak it has to be in balance.

Thanks guys, this is all temp, i will have a new habaki to fit, two piece with part shakudo and sliver, gold if it was koto. till then this will do.

Having an enterprising and somewhat nutty Chemistry Master who actually had a plate in his head from WW2.

I've been told that Bob is basically retired from the sword polishing end of things and that he has a student or students that do the work. I would assume that is the case here....How is the foundation polish?

Chris i have yet to talk to Bob, he took a trip after the show and is just getting settled back in at home.

so i cant say for sure whom did it if not him. Im sure it was done under his eye.

I did your bulb test and not a waver in the up and down the blade or the bulb. some shots every thing is in line not the best photos

And that is the test that people who use amateur polishers will be shocked at. It is scary when you think your lines and polish are well done, and then see how much that light can change as you go down the blade. People think home polishing is easy...this is one of the things that separates novices from professionals.
