I have been a little absent lately because of working on several projects at the same time.

So I apologize for rushing in again for just advertising my latest publication. It is a classical

meikan, a signature comparison, namely for sword fittings. It contains about 4,100 pictures

of about 2,000 Japanese sword fittings artists. Its purpose is to serve as a reference for the

comparison of signatures on sword fittings and is thus practical for both the collector and for

antique dealers and auction houses. Thus it can also serve well in the run-up as an aid to see

if a signature is promising enough to submit the item to shinsa.

For more details on the book and for where to order please take a look at my blog:

There is also an eBook version available which should be a very practical aid when comparing

signatures spot-on at buying.

Thank you all for your attention and Happy Easter to all of you.

I am on vacation from tomorrow but around to answer mails until tomorrow morning (European

time) and I will be back on April 29th.

Markus,

Wow. What an awesome book. This is going to be a monumental work...too good for an eBook imho, I think this one you have to have in paper.

Please can you post a few sample pages here? I am guessing there will be a lot of NMB customers for this one. Well done!

I assume all signatures have been verified as shoshin?

Thanks Brian!

A preview can be found at the descpription page at Lulu.com. Its hidden right

under the cover pic. All pictures are from shoshin-mei or at least from reliable

sources. But of course I can´t give any guarantees and please dont sue me

when buying a piece on the basis of just my book and when then it turns out

as gimei when submitted to shinsa. ;)

Markus, you already made the Hawley books obsolete, and now Wakayama/Kokubo/Haynes. What's your next project, the Bible?

Oh yes, I am already at the Corinthians to Paul so it should be finished early next year. :glee:

But joking aside, apart from all the other projects on my desk I want to write something on cutting tests next.

There is no comprehensive book on this out there, at least not in English. Well, I haven´t started with a single

word yet and all I have is just a basic plan so let´s see where it brings me. But it is another one of those very

interesting topics where surprisingly very limited data is available...

I have some unfished manuscripts (and comprehensive lists) on testers, Wazamono and so on on my hard disk. I'll e-mail them to you first thing tomorrow. Should save you a lot of time, and maybe there's a free copy of your next book in it for me! :glee:

I'm sure it's a good book I ordered one. As for replacing Wakayama and Bob Haynes' works I seriously doubt it.

@Guido: Thanks a lot. That will surely help me in my pre-sorting of data process! :thanks:

And I guarantee you a free copy when the project turns out positive. Just a small request:

Please send them either as mentioned early tomorrow or after the 29th because I dont want

my email account getting full whilst on vacation. Or if the files are not that big, please go

ahead and send them whenever you have time.

@Jeffrey: Thanks or ordering a copy. The book was never intended as any replacement.

The Haynes index is one of the most used books in my shelve. :)

As for the story behind the book, I was requested by collectors who were tired of working with

(sometimes doubtful) supplement translations and expensive books (and I mean more expensive

than mine ;) ) which have to be ordered from Japan or abroad just to "start working".

Another big wish was to have this signature archive as eBook on the tablet when going to sword

shows and the like to buy signed stuff without papers. So main focus was actually the electronic

version but when doing so, of course also a real book comes along.

Received the book today. Excellent reference for sword furniture signatures. This is a great asset for collectors that will only assist in the identification of artists along with Haynes Index and Wakayama. Thanks Markus.

Dear markus,

As a recurrent customer, I am going to order your latest book despite the fact that my bookcases are full (partly thanks to you) :glee: . I am just waiting for a good discount rate from Lulu.

May I add that I am really interested in a book about cutting tests. As you said, no book in English (to my knowledge) has been written yet about that topic.

Thank you again, dear Markus for your work. :thanks:

Oh sure... go ahead and take away our 'oldtimer' competitive advantages!

Some of us have worked for a decade putting together a suitcase light version for taking sword shows.

.....What :?: , you think Ludoph has all those signature photos just because it beats collecting stamps?

Now you've gone to arm everyone with tablets and character recognition software..... gah!

*If anyone cannot tell, I am joking*. Markus has done Herculean things in the 21st century to open up fittings collecting. Very grateful to him, though he just partially obsoleted the existence of my own mini database on such signatures.
