Marius Posted April 9, 2014 Author Report Posted April 9, 2014 Don't know, but it might well be... I don't think my friend will decide to sell before he has the members' opinion. He has mine, whatever it is worth... Quote
Marius Posted April 9, 2014 Author Report Posted April 9, 2014 And for those who like to have pics they don't have to open, here are smaller ones, which fit. Quote
hxv Posted April 9, 2014 Report Posted April 9, 2014 Mariusz, What the heck, I'll take a plunge and get a whack on the head Gimei or not, it looks like a well-made sword. The hamachi suggests that the sword is not suriage. The hamon doesn't run all the way down to the nakago as one would expect of suriage swords. I would guess the gimei is of a famous Bizen smith in the Nambokucho jidai. I am also guessing this sword is a shinto piece, probably Bizento. Smith? No idea. Regards, Hoanh Quote
Ryubiken Posted April 9, 2014 Report Posted April 9, 2014 I'm guessing it's a rude and desperate gimei of something in line of masamune-muramasa-magoroku. Of the blade i'm mostly thinking of end of Muromachi era Bizen (Bishu), one of the better-than-kazu-uchi-mono-quality. Also thinking that it might be slight suriage. And if the pictures are not playing with me, the hamon ends before hamachi. Saiha? Quote
Marius Posted April 10, 2014 Author Report Posted April 10, 2014 Anyone else want to take a shot? Quote
paulb Posted April 10, 2014 Report Posted April 10, 2014 no visibilty of jihada or the shinogi ji makes it extremely difficult to judge/ guess. Guessing based on what can be seen: Period Shinto Possible school Hizen Masahiro based on the thunder cloud look choji and amount of nie Could also fall in to a mid edo satsuma work with the long lines of nie running through the hamon Probably way off but it is another possibilty regards Paul Quote
Marius Posted April 10, 2014 Author Report Posted April 10, 2014 The hada is indeed invisible, says the owner. And here is the fake signature. Someone has apparently thought that this blades looks like Awataguchi Tadatsuna... Quote
Brian Posted April 10, 2014 Report Posted April 10, 2014 It's a well cut mei... Lots of nie there...I always think this looks like it was sprayed on with a toothbrush  Shape looks a little awkward to me for some reason, but lots of actvity and things to look at. Overall, a nice sword. The boshi would suggest a Koto? but the rest resembles early Shinto to me. Brian Quote
cabowen Posted April 10, 2014 Report Posted April 10, 2014 Long kaeri is consistent with Shinto. Quote
Peter Bleed Posted April 10, 2014 Report Posted April 10, 2014 Signature just looks hinky.Sword might be okay, but, well, it just looks hinky. Peter Quote
Marius Posted April 11, 2014 Author Report Posted April 11, 2014 Signature is fake, so this is no wonder Peter :-) SHinto or shinshinto, anyone wants to make a speculation about the school? Pretty flamboyant hamon, with kinsuji, sunagashi and ara-nie, not too harmonious... Quote
Darcy Posted April 13, 2014 Report Posted April 13, 2014 Maybe Hizen Yukihiro or Masahiro as above. The nie are really nice and delicate in the hamon but the jihada is not in keeping. I think too it does not look suriage and koto is ruled out. Quote
