Ian Posted March 31, 2014 Report Posted March 31, 2014 As Most of you are probably aware, I really can't resist a bargain  . But what do you think may have made this so cheap? Quote
Ian Posted March 31, 2014 Author Report Posted March 31, 2014 Hi stephen Well $50 cheap, I just had to get it, haven't got a clue what I will us it for, but I do like it :? Quote
Stephen Posted March 31, 2014 Report Posted March 31, 2014 i didnt understand it was in half from your pix now i see it, humm, nice work too bad it is what it is. maybe use it for kurikata on tanto??? Quote
Marius Posted March 31, 2014 Report Posted March 31, 2014 That's half a bargain only Probably 19th/early 20th c. work - converting a fuchi into a brooche? Lovely work... Quote
Brian Posted March 31, 2014 Report Posted March 31, 2014 hahaha. I suspect you set us up there  Hmmm..a real pity too, that was some good work. Look at the teeth of the shishi, and the mixed metals. Still..I can see why you bought it. As an example of Japanese metalwork, it will display nicely. Brian Quote
Ian Posted March 31, 2014 Author Report Posted March 31, 2014 Yes half a bargain May be a new tie clip Best regards Ian Quote
Geraint Posted March 31, 2014 Report Posted March 31, 2014 Clearly a very rare mounting from the original handachi or half tachi, (also known as nidai tachi meaning two long), which was in fact a sword split along its entire length so that one could become two at a moments notice. If only you could find the other halkf of the fuchi and the two pieces of the wari kashira, what a treasure that would be. Quote
