The_ozzy_samurai Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 Hello Guys Well i will admit im no expert and after wasting alot of time trying to match up this signature via websites, im at a loss? i cannot find anything like it,any help would be much appreaciated, its a WW2 blade, almost looks to be like those naval type made blades due to the lack of patina i think? as i said im not an expert, the tang also has a number stamped into it,so i assume its not a high grade smith, thank you Julian Quote
Lance Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 Looks like John beat me too it, agree it's Kunihiro. Not familliar with the smith though. Any other pics of the of the blade/hamon? Might be helpful in gathering additional information. Regards, Lance, Quote
celt72 Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 I was trying to figure out the mei for this sword also while the ebay auction was going on. I wasn't able to match it to any smith in Slough's book, and it was bugging me. I'm glad you asked about it. Quote
The_ozzy_samurai Posted March 7, 2014 Author Report Posted March 7, 2014 Thanks alot guys for the info, i purchased not knowing its maker but mainly on its high grade mounts in fairly good condition with those rare arsenal stamps at the base of handle, i figure the blade looks ok for a combat sword i wasn't expecting it to be a high grade smith as the file markings on tang look poor compared to my kanenori and koa isshin mantetsu tangs, anyways it should arrive next week, Quote
george trotter Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 A neat and tidy gunto. On Jinsoo Kim's Seki Kaji list: he is family name Kataoka, personal name Chikashi? He was registered Sho 16-11-13. I have seen a few of his blades and all have been Seki made gunto. Hope this helps, Quote
