Dear All,

This is a 1st generation Website (the wayback machine shows it was up and running in 2004 already) but it is a treasure trove of information on nihonto.

Does anybody know if the author, Mr. Robert Cole, has published some books?

This link suggest he has, but the site does not offer the option to buy them:

Maybe someone knows Mr. Cole personally?

I don't know his books, but his list of swordsmith and their rankings is huge. I often reffer to it and found some valuable info only on his website (since i don't have yet Taikan, Fujishiro... books).

Maybe Darcy knows him, Robert used his photos with Darcy's permission.

I have known Robert Cole for years. He was going to publish a book but got involved in other projects. He did publish some interesting charts. His web-site has a wealth of information. He lives in California and usually sets up at the San Francisco show.

Last year, after seeing what seemed to be a priced Kunikane on the Shi-shin site, I called the number that was shown. It rang twice and Bob answered. We had a nice chat - but the Kunikane was long gone! Call the number.

Thanks guys :)

This site is a great resource. I use it on a regular basis. I think I will call Mr. Cole just to thank him. A great effort and a great contribution.

It's certainly a classic site with a lot of info, but I dearly wish it was reformatted to match modern standards of navigability & presentation. It can be a trial, even bewildering, to browse and read.

On a related note, wasn't there a "website" someone found a while ago that was just one über-long page with a jillion images and an epic's worth of continuous text? It looked like it had great info, but most people couldn't stand to even try to parse it.

It's so painful when good content is obscured by inexpert presentation.

Gabriel, in case you haven't been on the site lately, some work has been done... although, it still may not be the most user friendly site... but wth the amount of info he covers, it's certainly understandable, I think...

It is a great reference to start with. But, do not take the information as "scripture". Robert, has been recently working to clear up inaccuracies and conflicts with canonical references. So, hopefully it will only improve.
