Thanks again for all of the good info about my sword. I bought a second sword from the same dealer, again about 10 years ago, for $250. Seems like I got a good deal on the first one. Wondering what I got for my money on this one. The numbers on the sword match the numbers on the sheath. It will be great if both these swords (this one and the one I listed under an earlier topic) are genuine as I have since also blown money on a couple of fakes. All input is appreciated. - Julie

Thanks - gotta love the internet! So is it safe to conclude that it is genuine? Is there a way to tell the date it was made? Is it worth what I paid? Again, I'm not interested in selling anything ... I've got the buying bug instead! I'm finally getting to the point where I can afford to add to my collection. Thanks again, Julie

Hi Julie, I bought a couple of these about 20 years ago, I think for $80 dollars each. They can not be classed as nihonto. Still, they are collectable for sword enthusiasts in general. John

I don't know of any way to date this saber (or sabre as it's spelled on this side of the pond) as it's Militaria and not Nihonto but still a piece of history.

If you bought yours 10 years ago,I think it's fairly safe to say that the 'fakers' hadn't got round to sabres then and yours is genuine.

This one has a 'Buy it Now' price of just over $300 in the U.K. but the tang is broken, the finger loop is missing and yours appears to be in much better condition. ;)
