LakeBum Posted January 19, 2014 Report Posted January 19, 2014 I'm jealous you got to see them let alone bring them back! Quote
Darcy Posted January 19, 2014 Author Report Posted January 19, 2014 I've got 3 of these in for Tokuju.... fingers crossed but it's almost impossible these days. Photos actually were not mentioned. Fukuoka Ichimonji with Honami Kochu papers and 100 gold piece valuation. More to come.... I hope. I am a cherry picker. Quote
tony edmunds Posted January 19, 2014 Report Posted January 19, 2014 Hi Darcy I'm interested in your opinion of the quality and workmanship of the Sadatsugu, I have a mumei Katana attributed to Hyugu Daijo Sadatsugu ( NBTHK Hozon) Hawleys 746 who I believe is the same smith? Regards Tony Quote
Darcy Posted January 20, 2014 Author Report Posted January 20, 2014 My Sadatsugu is Echizen Shimosaka Sadatsugu and has the Aoi mon engraved on the nakago. He's Jo-saku in Fujishiro. Student of Echizen Yasutsugu. About the other Sadatsugu signatures, the Hyuga no Daijo and Hyuga no Kami Sadatsugu, Fujishiro has them as separate smiths but he's indicated some confusion on lineage and there is in general out there some mixing together of the two. Me, I am not exactly a Shinto expert on Shimosaka school so I'd have to research it more. I do know that this work is very high quality though with beautiful hamon and very cool horimono. I had a wakizashi before by this smith a long time ago, but not anything with a Hyuga-no-Kami signature and I'm away from my books so can't look into it more. It also has a cutting test done at the behest of the smith and recorded by the smith on the ura, along with the Aoi mon. I don't often pick out Shinto stuff as I am a koto bigot but this sword is a very interesting full package including the cutting test, koshirae and great horimono (some of which can be seen on the shot below). It is bamboo and leaves that goes throughout the piece. I need to get it into better lighting conditions to do full photography though. Quote
raven2 Posted January 20, 2014 Report Posted January 20, 2014 Ok, Darcy, That just isn't fair. I look forward to seeing the pictures. Quote
tony edmunds Posted January 20, 2014 Report Posted January 20, 2014 Thanks Darcy, I knew you were a Koto guy hence my interest in your aquisition of the Sadatsugu, albeit an excellent example I'm sure. Hawley's lists two Sadatsugu Echizen smiths i.e 746 and 747. I think the NBTHK papered my sword to the earlier circa 1624 smith ( Hawley's 746). I was midly surprised that the NBTHK were happy to paper a mumei shinto blade smith to a specific smith although the workmanship is very typical. Regards Tony Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted January 20, 2014 Report Posted January 20, 2014 I am drooling and whenever I win the Lottery the first person I call on will be you. KM Quote
Jussi Ekholm Posted January 21, 2014 Report Posted January 21, 2014 Darcy, maybe you should put up a warning sign that most likely will happen. Really looking forward for seeing more of them. Quote
Roland Posted January 21, 2014 Report Posted January 21, 2014 Darcy, Darcy, that's not nice to tell such mouthwatering news here Alone this Ko-Bizen… phew… Photos? Please don't put us on the rack Quote
Darcy Posted January 21, 2014 Author Report Posted January 21, 2014 The wheels of bureaucracy grind slowly. Two are going to Tokuju so won't be out until they have their first crack. But soon. Soon. Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted January 21, 2014 Report Posted January 21, 2014 Darcy, what I'm grinding my teeth over is that you have these posted in the FOR SALE forum! Will you really be selling these at some future time, or are you just making us all drool?? I've already blown at least 4 of the 7 deadly sins!! Ken Quote
Jean Posted January 21, 2014 Report Posted January 21, 2014 Ken, while you are still asking yourself questions, Darcy must have received already inquiring mails from serious collectors and enters negotiation. Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted January 21, 2014 Report Posted January 21, 2014 Quite possibly true, Jean. But Brian does have a rule that prices must be listed in this section, correct? Ken Quote
nihonto1001 Posted January 21, 2014 Report Posted January 21, 2014 Rules are meant to be broken. In this case, in style. Tomonari! I am looking forward to seeing it. Quote
Jean Posted January 21, 2014 Report Posted January 21, 2014 Ken, What is the topic title? :D They will be for sale, they are not for the time being, fact which does not prevent anyone to begin negociation. I am not at the time being in the market having some health bills to foot. But I can tell you that were it at the end of the year, I would have already contacted Darcy about the Hozon Rai blades. Anyone curious enough would have run to Nihonto.ca :D Quote
Brian Posted January 22, 2014 Report Posted January 22, 2014 Moved to the "Online Sales/Sellers" section so that we can continue to drool while we await further info and details. I think this is more of an appreciation thread (sword porn) than a For-sale thread, and as Darcy mentioned..they are still being submitted for further papers. So let's just enjoy them and appreciate some items that most of us will never be able to gaze at except from afar or online. Brian Quote
runagmc Posted January 22, 2014 Report Posted January 22, 2014 As envious as I am, I'm glad that, since you have them, hopefully we will at least get to see some good pics at some point... Quote
Darcy Posted April 8, 2014 Author Report Posted April 8, 2014 Fukuoka Ichimonji is still at Tokuju shinsa. Sadatsugu was posted and sold. Tomonari is now up. http://www.nihonto.ca/ko-bizen-tomonari/ Quote
Brian Posted April 11, 2014 Report Posted April 11, 2014 To clarify the confusion here... (For the 4 posts/posters I removed) Items listed for sale go in the "for sale" section, and need a price. If discussing a seller, an auction, or a sale/website..then they go here, and do not need a price. If a seller is announcing he is going to be listing new items, or has a bunch of stuff coming in or is going to give NMB members a discount on his stuff..then he can post it here as a sale, and does not have to post a price. In this case, the announcement was about upcoming items, and also for appreciation. Since they came in, and became available, they can be listed individually in the "for sale" section with a price. But I am also not going to jump up and down about a single item that became available for sale in this section that doesn't have a price. I am more strict about the "For Sale" section, and will make sure this particular section here does not get abused, which I don't think it does. Yes..there is an overlap in descriptions of these 2 sections, and I have been considering fine tuning it so there isn't any confusion. Give me a few days and I'll do that. Brian Quote
Uechi Posted April 11, 2014 Report Posted April 11, 2014 Nice to have the kind of money that it takes to purchase excellence. Enjoy before you sell JDromm Quote
