AikiScott1 Posted January 16, 2014 Report Posted January 16, 2014 Hello and good evening. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get coiled twisted wire for sword grips? I am trying to restore a Kyu Gunto sword handle and while I have made this wire before myself, it is a very time consuming pain and I would rather just buy it. Thanks so much.---Scott M. Quote
Kai-Gunto Posted January 17, 2014 Report Posted January 17, 2014 I dont know where to buy ,I make it myself. Is it with 2 threads or 3 threads? Quote
AikiScott1 Posted January 17, 2014 Author Report Posted January 17, 2014 I get the proper gauge (though I forget what that is now) double twisted wire, then coil wrap it carefully in almost thread like wire. However, like I said I find it maddening. - - - Scott M. Quote
drdata Posted January 17, 2014 Report Posted January 17, 2014 Not sure you will find the "right" wire, but this page sells CW saber grip supplies and might look better than home cooked: http://swordrestorationtn.com/ HTHs Quote
AikiScott1 Posted February 2, 2014 Author Report Posted February 2, 2014 Thanks I did indeed find the wire that would work on this site, and Tom Nardi was very accommodating in procuring for me extended lengths of wire that would work for Kyu Gunto. While this wire is the wrong gauge and pattern for Kyu Gunto dress swords (that wire being a smaller gauge and a tighter pattern), it works great for the combat swords, perfectly matching the original grip wire from another Kyu Gunto in my collection. -. - Scott M.
