1tallsword Posted January 8, 2014 Report Posted January 8, 2014 Hello and good day to all. I have recently purchased a nice katana and am having trouble with the tsuba? i have looked some resource books i have as well as crounched quite a bit of time on the net trying to find a similar one, no luck! im very green when it comes to tsubas and cant even tell if this is authentic or not? your comments on age,authenticity,ect.. is very much appreciated, thank you in advance,Jeremy Quote
Jorgensen Posted January 8, 2014 Report Posted January 8, 2014 I think the tsuba looks cast/repro... or at least not very old... maybe some of the other kind fellas here can support og dismiss this...? Quote
Brian Posted January 8, 2014 Report Posted January 8, 2014 My own personal opinion..not cast, and genuine. But of average quality and "factory type plate" construcction. Just your run of the mill real tsuba. Brian Quote
peter Posted January 8, 2014 Report Posted January 8, 2014 Hello all I also have a tsuba very similar. maybe late edo and ive heard that maybe a symbol of family crest of mon? Peter Quote
kaigunair Posted January 8, 2014 Report Posted January 8, 2014 nice example peter. I had a similar example and posted it on the forums a few months ago. I believe Umetada was one of the possible options of the tsuba like Peter's. I believe these do represent a family crest of two butterfly antennae to antennae...its actually the family crest used by a friend in the local club. Quote
1tallsword Posted January 8, 2014 Author Report Posted January 8, 2014 wow! these are all welcomed responses, thank you to all. and thank you Peter for a comparable example, its very nice to see... thank you again to all that have taken the time and effort to reply, Jeremy Quote
Antti Posted January 8, 2014 Report Posted January 8, 2014 A similar themed tsuba is for sale by Grey Doffin, ex Holbrook, attributed to Ono by Holbrook. I like this one a lot better, but the theme is somewhat similar at least. http://www.japaneseswordbooksandtsuba.c ... -ono-tsuba Also, a very similar example was discussed here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=16106 Quote
