Hello Everyone!

 

My name is Tristan and this is my first post to these boards! I am very new to collecting Nihonto/Katchu but have been in love with it for a very long time! I have recently just made my first purchase of Nihonto/Katchu of any kind! I purchased from Nick at Nihontoart.com. He is an extremely helpful and a very accommodating individual and a pleasure to do business with. I was wondering what all your thoughts were regarding the armour I have purchased? Any regards or information you can shed light on would be very helpful as I know it will be a piece of constant discussion and Id lover to be able to educate accurately when Im speaking about it! I was wondering what all your thoughts were regarding the armour I have purchased?

When it comes to purchasing armor its usually better to ask questions about it before you purchase it, especially if you do not have much knowledge about the subject. That being said it looks like a nice armor with mostly matching parts with the exception of the haidate (thigh armor), I do not see any detailed images of the suneate (shin armor) but from what I can see they look like they could match, I would call this a hineno zunari kabuto, sugake odoshi, kiritsuke iyozane, ni-mai dou gusoku.

Welcome Tristan,

It is hard to give opinions on items bought by members from other members. However well done on purchasing from an established dealer with a good reputation instead of looking for a lost treasure on eBay. I'm not an armour guy at all, but it looks like a nice and complete package to me. Hopefully some of the armour guys can give you some info on it. There is also the armour forum linked above in the links section.

It's quite novice jump to start with a complete armour. Without talking price (prefer not to) this looks good and probably something you can learn from.

Hi Guys thanks for the help! I had a situation where I was about to purchase a complete armour locally and didn't have a good feeling about it. I reached out to several armour/nihonto dealers for help and Nick is the one that replied. We had some good long discussions and I felt that he was a trustworthy person to purchase from. I do think that you input is correct, I should have asked questions and learned more before purchasing but I do not feel that Im making a bad purchase here, just simply want to learn more about that armor from an educational stand point.

I think you made a very good first purchase and the armor looks nice! I've done business with Nick as well and he's a real stand up guy - supplies loads of high quality pictures and usually responds within a day. Like the others I don't have a clue when it comes to armor but the set itself looks really nice!
