Geoffrey Ward Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 I am a newbie and have a question regarding the use of Uchiko powder on Gunto blades.I realize that machine made blades are not Nihonto. And therefore not considered to be of value from an artistic point of view. However I do not wish to damage any of the pieces I have in my collection at the moment.I have one Navy tachi with a hand forged blade. Will the use of Uchiko powder erase the acid etched hamon on my guntos over time and will it damage the hamon on my hand forged blade? All comments welcome Thanks Geoff. Geoffrey Ward Posted June 27, 2007 Author Report Posted June 27, 2007 Will the use of Uchiko powder gradually remove the polish on the hamon of genuine hand forged Japanese Nihonto? Quote
Stephen Posted June 27, 2007 Report Posted June 27, 2007 the hamons on your guntos are acid cut most likly oil tempered. There a time and a place for Uchiko cleaning, on blades where you cant see anything and you want to bring out the hada and hamon, cleaning off gunk or old oil. check the links for use. Quote
USMC-LCPL Posted June 27, 2007 Report Posted June 27, 2007 So, would using powder on a gunto blade be a good idea? Quote
