You are not listed Guido.

I know. Sad story. Metropolis told me that they can't report about my traditional art, mostly because a) I had a bad hair day when they wanted to take a picture for the article, and b) their magazin is also read by minors ...

It's a strange kind of god that wants to spread the knowledge and appreciation of something that is, let's face it, a killing implement (albeit a very beautiful one).

Perhaps it's a god of war (like the Roman Mars) he's referring to?

I met Victor Harris several times at the British Museum in the early 90's (to ask his advice about blades and tsuba) but never met this gentleman .....perhaps it was a little before his time.

Thanks for the article Guido.

PS I'm a tradional p*** artist but Metropolis declined to interview me also.

... but never met this gentleman .....

Paul and I ran into each other here in Tôkyô on a couple of occasions, and he's also a NMB member. He seems to be a nice guy, and I know from personal experience that journalists tend to quote out of context. In any case, the "heavenly mission" thing was simply to good to pass upon ... 62 views in under 4 hours ...

Thanks Guido!

With friends like you it's obviously not the reporters that I need to worry about taking me out of context . Now you have me here feeling that I have to defend myself to the masses who don't know me.

For the record, as clumsy as it was, the original statement was speaking about the serendipitous nature of my career "SOMETIMES I FEEL LIKE I'M on a mission from god (BECAUSE- was omitted, then little bit about my budo background excluding the facts that I was a three times English Karate Champion and international team member) THINGS JUST FALL INTO PLACE. ;)

Now thanks to Guido, I am the David Icke of the sword world. Did I tell you that Guido is one of those lizard aliens, ask him if he has an alien card, go on.

Paul,

No need to defend yourself :D I think your work with Ono Yoshimitsu, Seni Exhibition, Nihonto TV etc etc speaks for itself

Gotta admit though...that was too good to pass up. :)

Now if you just follow Guido around a bit..we can have a decent tv exerpt on how Nihonto enthusiasts sustain the local Tokyo bar economy

don't feel bad for being left out............

I once read a book on teaching gaijins to pick up babes in the land of the gods based on an English character ( ok, very typical, an English teacher in Japan ) named Neville.

Funniest little booklet and prove to be a gem when i quoted the passages in a Japanese chatroom ( that's 20 years ago when chatroom was all the rage ).

If that author was not quoted in the article then the article is worthless !!I put it in the same class as that San Francisco newspaper article on a certain sword scholars we commonly referred to as the " ninja turtle ".

p.s. there's another one on Deustchland which I also used to very good effect.

Hi Paul,

I've read your posts and found them to be both informative and interesting..... I'm sorry I didn't put two and two together and realise that it was you being referred to in the Metropolis article.

I worked for an English national newspaper for 11 years and so I know exactly how they can take things completely out of context (or even just make a total balls-up like when my rag published a picture of actor Hugh Grant with his "recently deceased mother" only to have a livid Grant phone up the editor to tell him his mother was very much alive - although presumably a little upset after reading the photo's caption!)

You are definitely not the "David Icke of the sword world" although there are a few people I've met over the past 20 years who would qualify.

No names, but I remember one UK dealer (now defunct) who used to take magic mushrooms in his well-stocked sword-room and "speak" to all the previous owners of his Nihonto who apparently would queue up patiently to chat to him. Not sure how exactly as he couldn't speak Japanese and a medieval bushi sure as hell couldn't speak English!

All the best

Simon
