Brian Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 Was asked to post a poll to get an idea of what platform people are using as far as mobile communications go. Might assist anyone considering Nihonto related apps, and also just generally of interest.. Brian Quote
pcfarrar Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 Might be worth putting Apple before iOS as I'm guessing a fair few people won't know that is operating system iphones/ipad's use. Quote
Robert Janssen Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 Curious to see how this goes... related to app developers though: the ratio of apple to android users will only tip in the favor of android in the future. cheaper android phones will only add to the number of android users browsing mobile and using apps. Although I think apple users are more likely to invest in paid apps, the percentage of android users that pays for apps is less than apple users. tricky tricky... my 2 cents anyway! Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 Interesting indeed ! I personally want a phone with which I can phone people and occasionally text people. I use the internet at home and at university. Never used an app, never have owned a tablet, just an old windows phone because that worked well on my comp when I did not have a digital camera. Pity that when this one runs out, I will have to go for these semi-computer good for nothings. KM Quote
Jean Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 That's the drawback of being an historian, H-J :D . I use IOS7. Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 True Jean ! I still have a typewriter too. KM Quote
Jussi Ekholm Posted November 21, 2013 Report Posted November 21, 2013 I browse the site quite much by my phone. I have some version of Android, don't even know which one. I love to read the normal version of site by phone when I don't have access to computer. I get very frustrated by pages that are made for mobile devices (sometimes they throw you into a loop when you click use the full version of site -> it detects you are using mobile device -> so it brings you back to mobile site...), they make me want to throw my phone to wall. :D Quote
DirkO Posted November 21, 2013 Report Posted November 21, 2013 Brian, Isn't this you can simply see in your webalyzer or webstats tool? Most hostings have this and you can actually see the platform from which the pageviews or hits are coming... Quote
Brian Posted November 21, 2013 Author Report Posted November 21, 2013 Dirk, Yes, but I wanted to get an idea of the stats from registered members, and not just all visitors and guests. The figures from those who are signed up and participate I think are more useful that just those that have just visited once or twice. In case anyone is interested, from all visitors, the figures look like this: (all browsers, not just mobile ones) Safari---- 27.04% Internet Explorer---- 24.50% Chrome---- 21.35% Firefox---- 19.65% Android Browser---- 5.11% Nokia Browser---- 0.69% Safari (in-app)---- 0.60% Opera---- 0.36% Amazon Silk---- 0.22% Opera Mini---- 0.18% Quote

Nice stats Brian, the number of mac users (safari) is higher than I expected actually. Quote
jamesicus Posted November 21, 2013 Report Posted November 21, 2013 In my non-web presence life I am a western tradition Calligrapher and hand write most things in an Italian Renaissance hand. I do try to compose my web pages so that they will render and function in mobile devices (smart phones and the like). _________________ James Portal to my web sites and pages Mobile compatible and accessible to people with disabilities Quote
