jezah81 Posted June 24, 2007 Report Posted June 24, 2007 Hi guys, Just wanted to post some pics of my newly re-wrapped tsuka. I got it done in Japan by a tsukamakishi in Nara Prefecture. Cowhide leather, gyaku menuki style in Higo style. Here are the links: http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa20 ... ure081.jpg http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa20 ... ure082.jpg Kind Regards, Jeremy Hagop Quote
USMC-LCPL Posted June 24, 2007 Report Posted June 24, 2007 Wow, that looks great! What made you decide to go with that color of leather? Quote
jezah81 Posted June 24, 2007 Author Report Posted June 24, 2007 I suppose I just felt like getting the whole Higo feeling with the black same-gawa and brown leather tsuka-ito! Kind regards, Jeremy Hagop Quote
AndreasU Posted June 24, 2007 Report Posted June 24, 2007 Hmm, Looks a bit starnge for me. Definately a question of taste. It looks that the knots are not on the same line (level) and it seems that the width of the leather band varies. A textile wrap would have looked more stylish. This looks a bit like plastic for my eyes. But as I said in the beginning, it's a question of taste. Andreas Quote
Guest Simon Rowson Posted June 24, 2007 Report Posted June 24, 2007 Looks nice to me and it's interesting that the menuki seem to be in the Yagyu style placement (under the wrap in the hollow of each palm). If you are emulating a higo koshirae then you wouldn't use cotton or silk on the tsuka even if it looks "more stylish". Quote
jezah81 Posted June 25, 2007 Author Report Posted June 25, 2007 Thanks guys. As for the menuki, I had the gyaku menuki on request, as i think it is much more comfortable in my hands. Give me some time, and i shall take some photos of the blades i own. Kind Regards, Jeremy Hagop Quote
