Bernard Posted November 16, 2013 Report Posted November 16, 2013 Hello everybody, This tsuba (7.5cm X 7cm) is entirely covered by a kind of dark brown chocolate patina. At first, I thought that it had lost most of its gilding, but actually it was probably made puposely with only some spots of nunome-zogan. What do you think ? Can this tsuba be assigned to a specific school ? Regards. Bernard D Quote

My imaginary friend is named Yamakichibei (山吉兵へ). He thinks Bernard D. has a Choshu tsuba. He always likes to make me write his name using the correct kanji and hiragana. Quote
docliss Posted November 16, 2013 Report Posted November 16, 2013 Personally I would prefer a nineteenth century Bushu attribution, but there will always be some measure of disagreement regarding the later work of these two groups. The sparse nunome-zogan is, of course, as intended. John L. Quote
Brian Posted November 16, 2013 Report Posted November 16, 2013 I would also go Bushu in this case, although the Bushu/Choshu crossover is well documented. Brian Quote
Surfson Posted November 16, 2013 Report Posted November 16, 2013 Looks like a beautiful Choshu piece to me too. I'm afraid that there is some insect damage though....... Quote
